230A ON-OFF Battery Isolator Switch 140 x 73 mm Marine Battery Disconnect Switch

The MT046 keeps battery isolation simple: one rotation between ON and OFF, nothing else to remember. It is aimed at single-bank installations where the job is to kill the whole DC circuit cleanly before storage, service or transport, rather than to juggle two battery banks.

The contact set is rated 230 amps continuous at 12V DC, which covers the usual mix of navigation electronics, pumps, lighting and fridge loads found on small craft and camper vans. Copper carries the current inside the housing, and the studs accept proper ring lugs so the termination stays cool under a long charge.

A 140 x 73 mm footprint leaves room for cable routing on crowded dashboards and battery lockers, and the moulded ABS shell keeps the studs steady when the boat or vehicle is working through chop or rough track.

1. Isolate every load and pull both battery negatives before starting work; verify with a meter that the circuit is dead.
2. Pick a flat, rigid surface that lets the knob swing freely and leaves space behind the panel for cable bends.
3. Drill the mounting holes, test-fit the body, then torque it down in stages so the housing seats evenly.
4. Land the battery positive on one stud and the load or distribution feed on the other.
5. Crimp ring lugs on each cable end and tighten both nuts fully — resistance lives in a loose joint.
6. Sweep ON and OFF once with the loads still disconnected, then reconnect and recheck at the terminals.

Turn the switch to OFF whenever the craft or vehicle is laid up, shipped, or handed to a technician. Keep the dial face free of salt residue and rinse the housing with fresh water after extended coastal use. Re-torque the stud nuts at the start of each season and replace any cable whose lug shows corrosion or heat discolouration — the isolator can only pass the current its terminations allow.
