Product Description
MT049 Yellow ON-OFF Battery Isolator — 250A Continuous, 360A Intermittent

Two numbers describe this switch, and both matter. It carries 250 amps continuously, and it will take 360 amps for the short bursts that a windlass, thruster or hydraulic pack demands. Add a yellow housing and you get a master isolate that can be picked out instantly on a busy panel or inside a dark battery compartment.
Operation stays deliberately basic: rotate to ON, rotate to OFF, with a detent stop at each end. No intermediate selector position, no combined-bank link, nothing that needs explaining to a charter guest or a new crew member.
Maximum working voltage is 32 volts, so the same unit suits 12V and 24V installations. Studs accept conventional ring lugs, and the body mounts through a flat flange onto a panel, bulkhead or battery box wall.

Continuous vs Intermittent Ratings
Continuous rating250A — sustained loads such as lighting, pumps, electronics and charging
Intermittent rating360A — short bursts, typically windlass, thruster or motor start
Maximum voltage32V DC
PositionsON-OFF, two-position rotary

Treat the intermittent figure as a window, not a habit. It exists so a burst load can pass without damage, and it assumes the cable, lugs and stud torque are all correct for the current involved.

Why the Yellow Housing Earns Its Place
  • Instant identification — the master isolate stands out from fuse holders, busbars and black switch bodies.
  • Quick emergency response — crew find the cut-off by colour before reading any label.
  • Fleet colour coding — use yellow for main isolation and another finish for auxiliary circuits.
  • Moulded finish — colour is in the material, so it does not flake around the fixings.
Construction
  • Two-position rotary dial with positive stops at ON and OFF.
  • Copper current path for low resistance and controlled stud temperature.
  • Flat flange body that mounts to panels, bulkheads and locker walls.
  • Large terminal studs sized for standard crimped ring lugs.
  • Face legend readable at arm's length and identifiable by touch.

Typical Loads
  • Windlass and capstan — burst draw inside the intermittent window.
  • Bow thruster — short runs with cooling gaps between them.
  • Domestic distribution board — sustained draw well inside the continuous figure.
  • Camper leisure circuits — fridge, lighting, pumps and inverter feed.
  • Workshop and yard equipment — isolation on shared machines and trailers.
Installation Sequence
  1. Turn the dial to OFF and disconnect the battery negative lead first.
  2. Verify the circuit is dead at both studs with a meter.
  3. Position the body where the dial has full travel and cables can bend freely.
  4. Mark the flange holes, drill, then fasten the housing down evenly.
  5. Battery positive on one stud, distribution or starter feed on the other.
  6. Crimp closed ring lugs, torque both nuts fully, then cycle ON-OFF once before reconnecting.
Safe Operation

Shut down heavy consumers before moving the dial. Opening a 250A circuit under load will draw an arc and damage the contacts. Keep the yellow housing clean so the colour stays easy to see, check nut torque each season, and replace cable with corroded lugs rather than retightening it.

Buyer Questions
What does the 360A figure cover?

Short bursts such as a thruster or windlass run. Sustained loads must stay at or below 250A.

Will it work on a 24V system?

Yes, the maximum working voltage is 32V DC, which covers 12V and 24V installations.

Is the yellow colour available in other finishes?

Other moulding colours can be produced against your sample or drawing, confirmed before production.

Does it switch two battery banks?

No. It is a single-circuit ON-OFF isolator; separate banks need a selector model.

Can it be mounted in an engine compartment?

Yes, on a flat surface with clearance for cable bends, provided the dial is accessible for isolation.
