Marine Push Pull Light Switch

Some jobs do not need a relay, a fuse block or a wiring diagram. The MT128 is a brass push pull switch with two screw terminals: pull the knob for on, push for off, and the contact closes with a positive mechanical action that you can feel through your fingers.

Rated 10A at DC 12V, it covers the everyday small loads on a boat, a camper or a piece of plant — navigation lights, a cabin lamp, a horn, a small pump. Brass body, screw terminals, no crimping tool required.

What 10A at 12V Actually Runs
  • Navigation lights — Two 10W lamps draw under 2A of the 10A budget, which is why this switch has been a fixture on small boats for decades.
  • Cabin and courtesy lamps — A pair of LED lamps will barely register. Even filament lamps leave room for other loads.
  • Horn and small pump — Intermittent loads like a horn or a washdown pump suit a mechanical switch well, because the contact closes fully every time.
  • The 120W ceiling — 10A at 12V is roughly 120W in total. Add up everything on the same circuit before the switch does it for you.

Working with Screw Terminals
  1. Strip about 6mm of insulation — Enough bare copper for the screw clamp to bite, not so much that strands bridge to the body.
  2. Twist the strands, then clamp — A tidy conductor sits flat under the screw. A splayed one loses contact area and heats up.
  3. One circuit per terminal pair — Do not stack two feeds on one screw to save a connector; the second wire is the one that works loose.
  4. Check after a week — Screw terminals settle with thermal cycling. A second nip after the first week prevents most callbacks.

Mounting Notes
  • Panel thickness matters — The stem is designed for a flat panel; a soft or oversized hole lets the switch rock and the terminals touch the panel behind.
  • Reachable from the helm — Push pull is a mechanical action, so the knob should be within arm's reach without leaning past the wheel.
  • Keep the terminals dry — The body is brass, but the screw terminals still benefit from being tucked up under the dash rather than in a wet well.
  • Leave service slack — A short loop of cable behind the panel lets the switch be pulled forward for inspection without cutting wires.

Looking After Brass Contacts
Each season Work the switch in and out a dozen times to clear light oxidation from the contacts.
Annually Check the screw terminals for looseness and look for green corrosion at the brass.
After a wet season Wipe the stem and body; a film of salt will eventually stiffen the pull action.
If it feels rough Inspect the terminals before condemning the switch; a loose screw often mimics a failed contact.
Ordering — No MOQ

Buyer Questions
Is 10A enough for a bilge pump?

For a small pump, yes. Check the pump label for running current and add the start-up surge; larger pumps belong on a relay or a heavier switch.

Can it switch a 24V circuit?

The switch is rated DC 12V. For 24V installations choose a switch rated for the higher voltage so the contact gap and insulation stay within specification.

Do I need a relay?

Only when the load exceeds 10A or the cable run is long. Below that, a direct mechanical switch is simpler and more reliable than a relay.

Why brass rather than plastic?

Brass holds its shape at the mounting stem and does not soften in a hot cabin roof. The trade-off is that brass needs its contacts worked occasionally.

What is the minimum order?

No MOQ on the MT128. Single units, samples and mixed containers are accepted, priced against quantity and packing.

Tell us the load, panel thickness and quantity you need and we will confirm the MT128 configuration, packing and freight. No minimum quantity required.
