Two Key Starter Isolator Switch

An ignition switch is a sequence, not a toggle. The MT133 turns through ACC – OFF – IGN – START in a fixed order, with the START position sprung so the key releases back to IGN the instant you let go. That spring is the whole point: it is what separates a starter switch from a switch that quietly burns out a starter motor.

The barrel carries 4 poles at DC 12V, 30A and ships with two keys. Accessories, ignition, starter trigger and one auxiliary feed each get their own contact pair, operated together in order by a single key.

Position by Position
  • ACC — Accessories only: radio, instruments, nav lights. The engine and ignition circuits stay isolated, so a mechanic can work on the panel without the coil energised.
  • OFF — Everything is disconnected and the key can be withdrawn. This is the parking and lock-out position.
  • IGN — Ignition and running circuits live. This is where the switch sits for the whole of a normal trip.
  • START — The starter solenoid is energised. The key is spring loaded, so it must be held against the spring and releases back to IGN the moment you let go.

Why Four Poles
  • Four separate circuits — ACC, ignition, start and a fourth auxiliary feed each get their own contact pair. One key, four circuits, in a fixed sequence.
  • Sequence, not a guess — The barrel can only pass through the positions in order, so the starter cannot be engaged while the accessories are still switching.
  • Spring return protects the starter — Because START is spring loaded, the solenoid drops out as soon as the key is released. A switch without that spring is how starter motors get burnt out.
  • Two keys as standard — One for the operator, one for whoever keeps the equipment. Spares are quoted against the key code.

Wiring a Starter Switch Safely
  1. Starter solenoid on START, not the motor cable — The switch should carry the solenoid trigger current. The heavy cable goes from the battery to the solenoid, never through the key barrel.
  2. Stay inside 30A — Add up everything on the ACC and IGN circuits. If the total approaches 30A, split the loads onto relays rather than through the switch.
  3. Fuse each feed — A fuse close to the supply protects the cable run; the ignition switch is a control device, not a protective one.
  4. Label the terminals before you start — Four poles with similar wire colours is how a panel gets miswired. Mark each one against the drawing first.
  5. Check the spring action before delivery — Cycle to START and release: the key must snap back to IGN every time, with no hang.

Buyer Questions
Will it crank the engine directly?

No. The switch carries the starter solenoid trigger, not the starter motor current. The heavy cable belongs on the solenoid.

What does 4P mean here?

Four separate poles open and close with the key: typically accessories, ignition, start trigger and one auxiliary circuit. Each is rated within the 30A total.

Can the key be removed in ACC?

The key withdraws in the OFF position. That is what makes it usable as a lock-out point on a panel or a yard machine.

Is it suitable for a diesel with a glow plug step?

The switch gives you ACC, OFF, IGN and START. Glow plugs need their own timer or a separate switch; they are not sequenced by this barrel.

What is the minimum order?

No MOQ on the MT133. Single units, samples and mixed containers are accepted, priced against quantity and packing.

Send your pole schedule, panel thickness and key requirement and we will confirm the MT133 configuration, packing and freight. No minimum quantity required.
